Alibaug (Kolaba) Fort, a historical monument in the sea, Maharashtra, India Tourism

Alibaug/Kolaba Fort is situated on a rock island near Alibag town surrounded by Arabian sea, about 1 km from the mainland. When it is low tide, the fort can be reached by walk.  The main gate of the fort faces the town.  Inside the fort there is fresh water tank,  well and temples. One of the temple is still well maintained. In the parapet of the fort, some old time canons are placed facing the open sea.  There are also some other gates open to the high seas. This fort was Shivaji’s last construction and was the main base of the Maratha navy in the area.

There are some hotels and resorts available in the mainland. There are frequent boat services from the mainland to the fort. By foot it can be reached through the water during low tide only.
